Biography

Richard Bruce Kind (born November 22, 1956) is an American actor and comedian. He is known for his roles as Dr. Mark Devanow in Mad About You (1992–1999, 2019), Paul Lassiter in Spin City (1996–2002), Andy in Curb Your Enthusiasm (2002–2021), and as Arthur in the Coen Brothers film A Serious Man (2009).

Kind was born to a Jewish family in Trenton, New Jersey. He grew up in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He attended Pennsbury High School and Northwestern University, where he was in the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He is also an alumnus of The Second City in Chicago.

Kind began his acting career in Chicago, where he performed in numerous stage productions. He made his Broadway debut in 1984 in the play "The Pirates of Penzance." In 1992, he was cast as Dr. Mark Devanow in the NBC sitcom Mad About You. He remained with the show for its entire run, which ended in 1999.

In 1996, Kind was cast as Paul Lassiter in the ABC sitcom Spin City. He starred in the show for six seasons, until it ended in 2002. In 2002, he began a recurring role as Andy on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. He has appeared in the show in every season since.

Kind has also had a successful film career. He has appeared in over 50 films, including "Clifford" (1994), "Stargate" (1994), "The Station Agent" (2003), "For Your Consideration" (2006), "Hereafter" (2010), "Argo" (2012), "Bombshell" (2019), and "Beau Is Afraid" (2023).

In addition to his acting career, Kind is also a vocal advocate for social justice causes. He is a member of the board of directors of the Creative Coalition, an organization that advocates for the arts in public policy. He is also a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign and the Anti-Defamation League.
